Huuh, this article is just a little peace of an very interesting life story about two young sisters. I’m glad to write about them and I feel a big responsibility to bring this story, I’ll do my best. Enjoy.

Her name on Croatian means “calm”. Meet Mirna.

Mirna Marić is younger, and I’ll present her first. No brawl please. She’s a 15 years old Photoshop ninja with a very creative view of (un)reality. Donno why but she calls herself *amateur photographer*. Everyone is good in it’s own way, but about her work we can truly discuss a lot. After years of self learning and improving her photo editing skills, Mirna has realized that she want to be able not only to edit photos, but to make ones of her own, too.

Moreover, I hope that I’ll be able to dedicate my whole life to it.

That was the time when Mirna started taking simple self portraits and portraits of people from her surroundings. Mirna’s ambition for photography has been growing since the day she took her first photo.

Today, the postproduction isn’t my main tool in making a photo, it only helps me to make the „final cut“.

Here is an example of their improvisation while taking a photo. Mirna is the model on this one, and Martina has took this photo of her next to the window so that the natural lighting could be used. Besides, you can see how they used a white curtain for the background. This photo is a good example of the importance of post production, though. Namely, all the other photos from this session have been made in warm, summer and natural tones. On the other side, this one has been edited to look colder and more serious. Post production can really change the whole message of a photo and that’s what they love about it.

For her outbreak, she has to thank her sisters first camera. It was a pretty bad one though, but both of them practiced with it. Mirna now can say that she has finaly found her place in the great world of photography.

Nowadays, my greatest wish is to work with professional gear, although I know that a good camera doesn’t make a good photographer.

In Mirna’s gallery, you can find a lots of portraits, as well as some photos of her cat. It seems that people still are her favorite subject to shoot. In this few years of her photographing career she has participated in just (diffidence removed) one exibition called „I love Đakovo“, where she won the first and the third place in her category. In the future, she’s planing to take a part in many other competitions and exhibitions. Nevertheless, Mirna wants to introduce her work to as many people as possible. Good luck Mirna.

Martina is no less creative restless.

Since they send me an email with more details I thought Martina is younger, but she’s 17. Whatever, let’s prove the “restless” title. The reason why Martina (also Marić) loves photography so much is it’s possibility of showing everyone her vision of a specific theme. Unfortunately, as she said, because of a lack of the time caused by all the other hobbies, and, of course, the other obligations like school, she can’t really occupy herself with the photography as much as she would liked to.

My wish is to get technically specialized, so I could be able to perfectly display any of my ideas and through that, to leave an impression of my work on the viewer.

Consequently, if Martina could dedicate all of her time to hobbies, photography would be first on her list, followed by graphic design, directing and making short video clips. Nice, really interesting, in my case I removed that “if”. Forget it!

Here you can see an example of a photo which they have made in cooperation. This photo has been created during their summer break. Model is Martina, who did the post production, too.

Martina bought her first camera in the 8th grade and, she got to admit, it was a pretty lame one. However, that wasn’t really her start in the world of photography. In fact, she has begun taking it seriously just at the beginning of the second grade of high school. Don’t worry it’s not too late, awesome start. Back then she has decided to learn more about everything linked to photography and finding ways of making a good photo. It seems like the spending hours exploring various photography internet sites has finally paid off. Martina’s interest points in photography are people.

Considering all, I came to conclusion that people truly are one of the most interesting motives.

Furthermore, the possibilities of photographing people are numerous. Although she thinks her style hasn’t been formed yet, it is often described as surreal. Of course, post production has always been an important element of making her photos complete and it is only the exploitation of creative possibilities.

Sometimes, it’s the post production that makes people realize what the photo is all about.

Sum

They have been learning together from the beginnings and they are still improving themselves, together, of course. Because of that, sisters Mirna and Martina are often modeling for each other.

As a model, I can understand how she pictured a photo from a photographers point of view.

That means their modeling is more effective, because they know all the difficulties that may come across while shooting. And lastly, Martina and Mirna are sisters who know how other is thinking. In a mail I recieved from they, sisters said, they got to admit, that they are still far from being an expert regarding the technical part of photographing and they have tried to make an improvised photo studio for a several times, but the studio was never good enough. Therefore, sisters tend to use the natural lighting as good as they can. While taking inside photos they combine the natural lighting with a reflector that they have. It’s an improvised one, isn’t that great?

For instance, this photo was made in just a few minutes. Mirna has noticed this bath tub near her grandmothers house. She saw it as a great location, and immediately got an idea for a photo. Tomorrow, they came here and this photo was born. It’s interesting that this was the shortest photo session she has ever done. They were shooting another one at the same location, so they had only 10 mins left to shoot this one. Mirna didn’t even thought that any of these photos will turn out to be good considering that they were in a hurry and made only 15 shoots.

A lot of their photo sessions were made outside, that means they have to think about a location as soon as they get an idea about a photo. Đakovo isn’t a big city, but sisters still believe that there are some good locations yet to be found.

If you are interested in their work you can find more on their creative portfolios around the web, I’d mark off Martina’s (also know as “She”) and Mirna’s deviantART gallery.

Thank you girls.
